Software Development Manager

Innovative Systems is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead our team of User Experience (UX) Designers and User Interface (UI) Developers. Our ideal candidate will be a proven leader with solid technical skills and very strong understanding (and appreciation) of applying User Experience Design techniques to develop world class software front ends. 

Innovative has decades of experience developing highly robust back end server products.  We are now rebuilding our front ends with an objective of making them so intuitive that we never have to provide a user manual again.  If you have the proven ability to lead, the skills to set technical direction and the creative flair to use design to make a difference, we want to talk to you!


  • Defining the technical architecture for the front end portion of the system.  Our back end servers expose all functions via Web Services.
  • Schedule, assign and prioritize the tasks for both the User Experience Designers and User Interface developers to meet quarterly release plans.
  • Mentor all team members to continually improve team capability while ensuring high retention rate.
  • Making strategic design and user-experience decisions related to both existing and new features.
  • Lead the User Experience Designers in translating concepts into wireframes, prototypes & other deliverables that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Developing baseline UI toolkits that support the rapid development of new products and features in existing products.
  • Suggesting architecture improvements, recommending process improvements.
  • Stay up to date, identifying new technology options.
  • Listen, but also challenge the ideas and solutions of others ensuring constant progress on tools and processes.
  • Collaborating with team members and stakeholders all over the globe.
  • Taking smart risks and championing new ideas.


  • Prior Software Development lead/management experience (3-5 years)
  • Proven ability to work with clients to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet client needs and vision.
  • Proven ability to work closely with User Experience Designers and Software Developers to translate designs into production code.
  • A solid grasp of user-centered design and testing methodologies, subsystems, and usability and accessibility concerns.
  • Proven ability to lead teams of people that report to you and are in peer groups.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related STEM major.
  • Experience with front-end development technologies, such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript frameworks such as JQuery, Angular, and React.
  • Strong problem solving ability including ability to analyze and resolve complex application design issues.
  • Experience effectively working independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10-15% of the time to client sites throughout the UK, the United States, and other locations.
  • Strong communications skills including the ability to accurately report on progress.


  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Human Computer Interaction
  • Portfolio of Design projects including sample UI development efforts
  • Experience with User prototyping tools like Balsamiq or Justinmind
  • Experience with Agile software development and project management methodologies
  • Fluency with multiple languages
